We are looking for new creative stories, not just rehashing of the stories already out there. We are looking for speculative fiction novels that we think could be the next big fandom.
Work with us
What would it be like to work with Lead Pyramid? Well, here's the deal. We started out as a self-publisher, so we know what it's like to be stuck at the bottom. If you sign on with us, we're going to take you as high as we possibly can.
To start with, we aren't going to just let you adrift. There are horror stories out there of authors just sitting on their thumbs waiting for word, never knowing if their works are moving through the system or are just being sat on. Here, you'll be involved in the process every step of the way. If your work hasn't yet undergone beta-testing, we'll help connect you with readers. We'll help you through the editing process, and get the manuscript polished and ready for release.
Now, of course, nearly every publishing company out there is going to do the same for you. Here's where the difference comes in: Marketing. No matter what the book is, if we take it on, we're going to market it just as if it was our own. There won't be any preferential treatment, no competing with the higher sellers. You want us to sell your book, and that's what we're going to do. How will we do this? Well, your book will be involved in all our website, newsletter, and facebook promotions. However, the best form of marketing is putting out books in person. We attend as many conventions as we can, and will be presenting your book at all of them. We request that you attend as many of these events as you can, allowing for the best promotion possible. However, even though we help with marketing we also allow you to market on your own. Most publishing companies will take full control of your marketing. However we know we don't have all of the answers so if you have great ideas to help sell your book, use them!
We'll take a small cut of the sales, but our goal is to help you, so we're not going to gut you by any means. If you have any questions about how the process works, feel free to use the contact page to let us know!
No fanfiction. If you wrote something that you think would be a great Star Wars story, but decided to set it in your own universe to avoid copyrights (and trying to get published through Lucasarts), then this isn't for you. We want something that hasn't been done before.
No erotica, excessive swearing, excessive gore, etc. We're going to be flexible on this one. If you can demonstrate a reason for the content, then we aren't going to turn it away because it might be offensive, but we also don't want to see pointless shock.
Nothing that has been previously published, either for free or for profit.
Speculative fiction. We want to delve into your stories and find ourselves as far away from the "real world" as possible. Science fiction, Fantasy, Horror, superheros, steampunk, apocalypse, the list goes on.
Your book must be complete. We don't want to see queries for projects that are still in the works. We know that you're chomping at the bit to get done, but we want to know that you have the perseverance to stick it out.
To submit, send your proposal to firstname.lastname@example.org. In the email, we would like to see:
A synopsis of the story. If we were to pick up the book off the shelf and look at the back cover, what would you read?
An author bio. We want to know who might be working with us. Tell us about yourself!
Note: Unlike most traditional publishers, we aren't going to judge your work on you. If you're writing about something that you have no particular "connection" with, as long as it's a great story, we don't really care. This part is solely to help us get to know you a little better.
A synopsis of why you wrote the story. What makes you tick, why did you sit at the computer pouring so much of your life into this novel?
A description of your story. Not what you find on the back, but how you truly think of your work. What makes it unique, what sets it apart from the crowd?
The opening of the book. We aren't going to set a limit on pages or chapters, since you as an author know better than we do just how your book fits together. That said, we do want just the beginning.
We will respond to each and every submission that we receive, as quickly as possible. You won't get an automated reply, or even a standard "form" email. You put in a lot of work on this manuscript, and regardless of our decision, we aren't going to leave you hanging or treat your work like anything less than you want it treated.
