The avians are perhaps the most mysterious of the primary races. Bipedal birdlike creatures, they are native to the jungles of Sournous. While they can certainly speak most languages presented to them, their complete lack of understanding even basic concepts like civilization prevents most intelligent communication with the creatures.
No one knows how or why the creatures came to be, but that may be because they themselves don't know. Throughout history, not a single avian has ever shown the ability to understand the concept of written language. Living in the jungle, they simply harvest fruit for sustenance, and thus don't rely on trade or farm labor. Instead, the birds simply form loose communities that fluctuate and change as rapidly as the winds blow. Many of them devote their time to pursuing the arts, creating sculptures and paintings, while others simply wander around and take in the scenery.
Height: 6-8 feet
Unusual Characteristics: - Feathers. - Their arms, while certainly in line with other bipedal races, tend to resemble small, useless wings when held against their bodies. - Claws instead of hands and feet. - Small beaks protruding from their faces
Coloring: Varied, but usually bright. All colors of the rainbow can be seen, though greens, blues, and yellows are the most common.
Lifespan: Unknown for certain, but probably around 20-30 years.
Magic: Unknown. Some experts claim that the avians can focus magic through art, but others dispute this.
Worshiped gods: - Unknown
Other notes: - Because of their unusually docile nature, the concentration of vampires among avian populations is significantly higher than other races. The undead birds are able to control their hunger much more efficiently than other species of vampires, leading many vampires to gravitate towards Sournous in an attempt to learn their secrets. Additionally, vampirism tends to make avians more readily able to understand more complex concepts, which has led some researchers to intentionally infect the creatures.
