If you're new to the world of The Eternal Quest, I can imagine your confusion upon discovering a time travel spin-off story attached to an Epic Fantasy tale. I must admit, the two aren't an inherently similar, but I find the blend to be an exciting balance to play around with!
In any event, I can certainly understand that some people may want to jump full-on into the time travel story without bothering to read through five full volumes of content just to understand the convoluted backstory of Curse of Knowledge. With that: Here is a brief synopsis to get you started! I can't guarantee that this will cover EVERY minor reference or detail from Curse of Knowledge that pertains to The Eternal Quest, but it should at least be enough to get you started!
Main Characters of Curse of Knowledge: Paulin (High Elf Male) Hesione (High Elf Female)
How it all began: In Volume 1, Hesione recruited a small group of adventurers to help track down information about a strange book that she had found. Towards the end of that volume, Paulin (her fiance whom she had been running away from) arrived. Here, it is revealed that both Hesione and Paulin are royalty from the Elven land of Elsinor. Almost immediately after that fact, a much older version of Paulin shows up and sacrifices himself in order to resurrect the angel Malah.
Continuing the story: Following Malah's resurrection, hundreds of other members of her species came roaring into Calsin intent on destroying both Calsin and each other. This sparked an event known as the Angel Incursion, which ultimately resulted in the destabilization and collapse of Elsinor. Key players in this were the angels Malah (later changed into a male named Mal), Simon, and Fortrina. Eventually, the threat was curbed, and the surviving angels moved to Istinis where they took up residence in a fortress. Hesione and Paulin, meanwhile, discovered that they were actually siblings, and that their father had placed a spell on both of them in order to try and keep them apart. This resulted in a great deal of tension between the two, which has yet to fully resolve.
Escape from Elsinor: Following Elsinor's collapse, the great nation of Sintison swept into the land, intent on ending the current regeime. Fearing for his children's safety, the King banished Paulin, and sent him away. The group fled into Sintison itself, where they were able to hide out for some time. While staying in the heart of Donenrot (the capitol of Sintison), a high elf female named Kisidera (whom Paulin had started dating) was attacked by vampires and ultimately infected with vampirism. In a fit of rage, the group attacked and slayed the vampire lord in charge of the operation, which brought their existence to the attention of the Prince of Sintison. He subsequently chased the group out into the wilds of Sintison, where, while hiding in a cave, an older version of Hesione and Paulin appeared in a time pod to rescue their younger selves from the wrath of Prince Korvac...
