Known for being shifty and deceptive, the dark elves are one of the oldest races in Calsin. Unlike high elves, which can draw power from nature, the dark elves have a close connection with the Dark Realm, a plane of existence only accessible at night. Their magic, as the materials to draw upon are far more difficult to obtain, tends to be far more powerful and destructive than most other magic. Their connection to the Dark Realm, combined with the sheer power of their magic, has led to a race of people that will often accomplish their goals using methods that other races would never even dream of.
The elves as a whole were created by a being known to them as Persphone. At the time, the only other species inhabiting the world were orcs, giants, firingar, trolls, and dragons, all of which were incredibly violent. Persphone wanted to balance the equation, and created the elves as a way of introducing peace. However, as the elves were far smaller than most of the other races and didn't bother to attack like the orcs, they were considered mere vermin by nearly everyone else. After a failed invasion of the Scorched Lands, the orcs swept across the land until they found the elves. While most of the elves refused to put up a fight and were simply slaughtered, a small sect fought back with everything they had. In desperation, they called out to the trolls in the Dark Realm. The trolls were more than happy to assist, and used their own magic to help transform the sect of elves into the deadly race that still persists to this day.
