Noted Lore:
According to the Mountain Dwarves: The Internal Flame rose from the depths of the ground, surging with power and might. It broke free of the ground, erupting onto the surface. Upon finding it cold and barren, it retreated into the ground, where it spat out the dwarves. In return for their remaining under the ground, the Internal Flame agreed to supply the dwarves with enchantments and power over other species.
According to the Plains Dwarves: The Internal Flame rose from the depths of the ground, surging with power and might. It broke free of the ground, erupting onto the surface. This display of power rallied the Rushing Storm and the Consuming Wave, both of which went out into the world to gather their brethren. As all fourteen met, they combined their power to create the dwarves, who were given power through the Elementals over all creation.
Conventional lore: - While the Elementals have been established as factual deities (the hearts of all fourteen may be visited in their respective temples), it is known that the dwarves were not created by the Elementals. Additionally, while the Internal Flame can be traced back to the start of the Dwarven Empire, the other thirteen Elementals can only be found in writings following the Dwarven Civil War. Their power and divinity can not be debated, but the interpretation of their commands, as well as how their hearts were given to the dwarves, is shaky at best.
