Creatures made from living stone, gargoyles are designed for one purpose: Killing. They can disguise themselves as rocks and boulders, making it almost impossible to detect them before they detect you.
When the orcs were pushed across the mountains, it was quickly realized that it would be impossible for spells and enchantments alone to keep them in line. As such, a number of elven mages (both high and dark) worked together to create the creatures. To this day, the gargoyles patrol the border, killing all orcs that get too close to the line.
Height: - 3-4 feet
Characteristics: - Made from living stone. - Can conceal themselves as boulders or piles of rocks. - Can move so fast that they are often impossible to see.
Habitat: - Western Mountains
Weaknesses: - Subject to control spells, since the elves want to keep a close watch on them. - When outside their ordinary habitat, they often simply revert to hiding (sometimes as statues, if in civilization), and remain that way indefinitely.
Other notes: - As it is well known that gargoyles can sometimes disguise themselves as statues, many richer residents of Calsin will have sculptures built of gargoyles to dissuade thieves.
