Perhaps the most secretive of all the species, only a small handful of people can claim to have seen gnomes and lived to tell the tale. Faithful servants of the wondrisil, the gnomes exist simply to observe the world and bring back information to their reclusive masters.
The gnomes are known to have been created by the wondrisil, though almost nothing else is known of their culture. It isn't known exactly when the gnomes were created either, though the first mention of their existence was in a volume written by a wizard in Distisil. Similarly, nothing is known of their culture, or if they even have one. If they appear, they bring messages from the wondrisil, and that's really that. All attempts to dig deeper into their lives have failed, leading some to speculate that they're simply projections of the wondrisil themselves, not a separate species at all.
Height: - 2 inches
Unusual Characteristics: - The people who have been able to observe them describe the gnomes as a mix of all currently known sentient species. Green skin, pointed ears, protogills. It is believed that this may be a wondrisil attempt to make all species at ease with the creatures, though in practice it seems to simply make people even more freaked-out.
Coloring: - Greenish-tan
Lifespan: - Unknown. Theorized to be anywhere from indefinite to only a few seconds.
Magic: - Gnomes can appear and disappear seemingly at will, though again, it is unknown if this is their own inherent magic or simply power granted by the wondrisil.
Worshiped gods: - Probably the wondrisil, given their devotion to the beings.
Other notes: - The largest piece of evidence against the gnomes being projections of the wondrisil themselves is the presence of tiny skeletons in ancient dwarven and dark elf ruins, implying that the gnomes were once captured and experimented on. Nevertheless, records of these captures and experiments has never been found, leading some to speculate that the remains were created by the wondrisil simply to throw others off.
