One of the handful of species to occupy the Dark Realm, imps are known for their trickery and deception. Despite quite obviously being sentient, the trolls consider them mere vermin, and usually try to exterminate them on sight. This has led to many imps fleeing the Dark Realm into Calsin, though this rarely goes well.
No one knows how or why the imps were born into the world. Despite being sentient, they live as anarchists, with no desire to ever form a solid society. Physically, they resemble bats, though a bit more spindly. Long, grasping limbs, fingers, and toes give them a long reach, while their snout full of teeth can cause wounds that will bleed for days. Imps can often be found hiding in caves, both in Calsin and the Dark Realm, where they will occasionally form larger flocks for short times. Their wings allow them to fly far faster than even horses can run, making them difficult to track down. When imps cross over from the Dark Realm, it is rarely with good intentions. They will usually spend their nights flying from village to village, breaking into homes, killing livestock, and ruining anything they can. They will rarely actually kill anyone, though they aren't opposed to leaving a few bite marks here and there.
Size: - 3-4 feet long, with a wingspan of 6-7 feet.
Unusual Characteristics: - Enormous eyes and ears - The only known sentient species able to fly
Coloring: - Grey-black
Lifespan: - 20-30 years
Magic: - Imps have never been seen to use magic, even to cross to the Dark Realm and back. They can only accomplish that enormous feat through natural means or artificial help.
Worshiped gods: - Thornsaldsarn, a god of destruction that they claim lives in the Dark Realm
Other notes: - Conversations with imps are nearly impossible to achieve, as they usually simply want to cause harm instead of being helpful. The only times this has ever been achieved has been through the use of powerful calming spells and thick walls. - Like other species from the Dark Realm, imps have a weakness to the sun of Calsin. Upon being struck by sunlight, they will undergo a transformation into hobgoblins, beings of immense destructive power that will attack and kill anything they see. It is thought that they either lose their sentience or simply go insane during this process, since even calming spells have never allowed for conversations with hobgoblins. Additionally, unaltered imps will often either flee or attack hobgoblins, implying that they view the creatures as highly dangerous and no longer allies.
