Powerful arachnids, theocars are truly a sight to behold. Physically, theocars more or less resemble crabs that stand dozens of feet high, have well over twenty pincers, and have a taste for meat. With the ability to swim and walk on land, they serve as constant menaces to coastal towns, particularly in Elsinor and Donitor.
The first recorded meeting with a theocar came shortly after the birth of the merfolk. In fact, the enormous monsters were among the threats that caused the merfolk to beg Persphone for a new kind of magic. Following the merfolk civilization slowly expanding, theocars began to appear on land, more and more often, likely to run from the newfound threats on the waves.
Height: - 30-60 feet
Characteristics: - Two main pincers, usually over a dozen smaller pincers. - Will eat nearly anything, meat, wood, even metal in some cases. - Usually a greyish-red color, though blues and even whites have been observed. - Will usually make quick, precise strikes, running out of the ocean only to run straight back. - Will only rarely attack boats on the ocean, though they certainly don't shy from it.
Habitat: - External oceans (none ever reported in Inland Ocean)
Weaknesses: - If kept out of the water for too long, theocars can become dehydrated and die in a matter of hours.
Other notes: - Theocars hatch as tiny, minnow-sized creatures. It takes roughly ten years for the creatures to grow as large as an adult human, and far longer to grow to larger sizes. It is theorized that there isn't a maximum size for the monsters, but that they typically die around sixty feet tall simply from old age. Attempts have been made to extend the lifespan of the creatures (the most successful grew one to a size of one hundred feet tall), though this takes many centuries and is usually considered a bad idea by respectable mages.
